Code of Cooperation

Board Relationships

  • Board members are involved in other ways in the community. They have an awareness of the needs in the community and have a common goal to meet those needs.

  • Board members are the trustees of the "customers" money.

Agency/Community Relationships

  • Strengthen planning component to fill service gaps involving United Way funded agencies

  • Better communication and visibility for agencies

  • Increase awareness/promotion of the agencies

  • All United Way volunteers should serve on Community Investment Teams and visit the agencies.

Donor Relationships

  • Awareness/promotion with agencies/donors

  • Better communication and visibility for donors

  • Donors are "customers" of the Board and have entrusted the Board to allocate and invest their money in agency services.

External Communication Strategies

  • Intercommunication with agencies and the media

  • Listen to customers: donors, people served, and internal

  • Communication in Island County can be done through print media, radio, and public access TV.

  • The community learns about resources through participation in service provider coalitions:
    • North Whidbey Community Resource Network
    • Community Advisory Board (CAB)
    • Community Health Advisory Board (CHAB)
    • National Night Out
    • Children's Day
    • Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce
    • Navy League
